East Coast Madness

So we’ve finally started to make our way down the east coast from Port Douglas after a rather sad farewell to the place and people we have completely fallen in love with. We had a lot of emotional goodbyes as we were not only leaving Nicola’s family, who also took me in as their own, but all the people we had met and befriended in Port Douglas. My Bally Hooley family were also hard to leave and it was difficult swinging by the depot on the way out of town to say goodbye to Peter who’d taken the role as my Port Douglas Grandad whilst I was in the area!

Time to Leave Port Douglas!

Another over due blog I’m afraid, but I am sure they will be more consistent once we get on the road tomorrow and start heading south again! It’s hard leaving a place where we both feel so at home, but I am sure we are both going to find ourselves back up here sometime in the not too distant future. It’s been a few weeks since the last blog and we’ve mostly spent the time working to top up our travel funds, but we have also managed to find time to get out and enjoy Port Douglas and Far North Queensland before moving on with our travels.

Time to Top Up the Kitty

This blog is a little brief as we’ve really just been trying to act like grown ups and top our our funds over the last few weeks. All of Nicola’s visiting relatives have made their way on wards or home so it’s finally time to knuckle down and earn some money, whilst enjoy Port Douglas of course. I’ll do my best to write an update without talking about too many of the dull bits, but that doesn’t leave much!

Linda and Adrian Come to Stay

Its been a busy few weeks which has led to me falling a little behind with blogging and having to catch up on this and the previous blog a lot later than I would have liked. Linda and Adrian, Nicola’s Parents, also came to stay so we primarily spent time with them and even used it as an excuse to sneak in another reef visit.

Everybody leaves Cairns!

This week was our second and last week with Jason before he headed down to Adelaide to begin his solo adventures through Australia! It’s also our last week in Cairns before moving up to Port Douglas to stay with Nicola’s cousin Paul and so we have been using our time when not with Jason to sort ourselves and the car out before we go to Port Douglas. Jason Comes to Cairns

We’ve really made ourselves at home over the last couple of weeks in Cairns and have taken the opportunity to travel up to Port Douglas regularly visiting Four Mile Beach and the picture perfect town. This has lead to a few relaxing beach days and finally getting some time to play around in the water before the stinger (jelly fish) season starts in a couple of months. Read More

Settling into Cairns

This week was not as action packed as our few weeks previously, as we used our time to recover from the month on the road and begin looking into settling into Cairns. We are hoping to stay up or around here for the next couple of months and ideally find some work, paid or voluntary, to keep us occupied.

Our Arrival in Cairns

We had a couple of days in Port Douglas before we were due to hand our beloved camper van back in Cairns as we wanted to spend some time with Nicola’s cousin and aunt before we arrived in Cairns. To that end we left Mission Beach and headed up to Port Douglas with the intention of stopping at Josephine Falls and Babinda Boulders to break up the drive.

End of our East Coast Road Trip!

On our way back through Mackay we stopped off at the marina and took a stroll amongst some rather expensive looking yachts before heading to the beach for a bite of lunch out of our camper. We then popped into the local shopping mall for some window shopping and Nicola managed to pick up a cheap ukulele which I’m sure will bring us both hours of listening pleasure.
